Looking north across the Clyde, visitors can see the Finnieston Crane, a historic cantilever crane that has become an iconic symbol of Glasgow's industrial heritage and now functions as a listed monument. The Clyde Arc bridge, known locally as the Squinty Bridge, is a short walk away. To the east, further along the riverbank, the SEC (Scottish Event Campus) and the Hydro arena can be seen, making Pacific Quay part of a broader waterfront cultural and events corridor.
Getting to the Glasgow Science Centre is straightforward. The nearest railway station is Exhibition Centre, about a fifteen to twenty minute walk across the Clyde using the Bell's Bridge pedestrian and cycling bridge, which connects the south bank to the north bank near the SEC campus. Several bus routes serve the area, and there is a car park on site for those arriving by road. The Science Centre is also accessible by bicycle, as the riverside path forms part of the National Cycle Network. Entry to the Science Mall requires a ticket and it is worth booking in advance during school holidays and weekends, as popular time slots can fill up. The IMAX and the Glasgow Tower operate on separate tickets. Accessibility is good throughout — the building was designed with wide corridors, lifts between floors, and facilities suited to wheelchair users and visitors with additional needs.
One of the more fascinating details about the Science Centre is that its titanium cladding came from the same supplier used for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Frank Gehry building that became a symbol of architecture-led urban regeneration. The comparison is apt: both buildings were born from a desire to signal a city's transformation through bold contemporary design. The Glasgow Science Centre has attracted criticism over the years for the cost of upkeep and the recurring technical difficulties with the tower, but it has also repeatedly been praised as one of the most important investments in public science engagement in Scottish history, and surveys consistently rank it among Scotland's top family attractions.
